  • Another opportunity to submit your challenge

Welcome to Motivational Mondays, your weekly (PEP) talk from Mark Kent.

Back from the long weekend, and of course I took Monday off, thus the reason for submitting this on Tuesday.

Hard to believe that summer is over but it has been a good one and the fall is even better.

Isn't it interesting how we tend to relax during the summer and regain our focus and discipline in the fall.

This is a good time to consider some of the concepts of motivation and how to apply them to your every day life.

In fact there is going to be a shift in the focus of Motivational Mondays, placing more focus upon practical application, than theory.

This is where you come in. Fortunately many people have enjoyed Motivational Mondays and have found it inspirational and helpful in improving their performance and motivation in their lives.

What I am requesting is that you submit a challenge, a project, a task, even a dream that you have wanted to complete, but for some reason have not been able to start or finish it.

It could be a simple task that you have procrastinated on, or something more life challenging that you have always wanted to do but for some reason you have not gotten around to it.

I will select one and offer insightful, practical advise to help you move forward to accomplish your goals. You will have the benefits of expertise coaching brought to you each week that can make a difference in your daily life, so think of a project, or a future goal that you would like to accomplish, and I will help you get there.

Briefly I would like to discuss the concept of push-pull energy specific to motivation.

Last week I explained the concept of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. I mentioned the most sustainable motivation is intrinsic.

I was watching the news yesterday and a reporter was interviewing an elderly lady who had worked for over 60 years at a department store that was now closing down and was asked how she could have worked there for so long and she replied, she loved helping people.

That is a great example of intrinsic motivation. When we have intrinsic motivation we are naturally pulled or drawn toward something.

When we are curious, inquisitive, sometimes even compelled to follow through on an initiative, a responsibility even work from an internal force (pull) that matches up our gifts and  talents with the physical universe, then we are offered  an opportunity to be fulfilled.

Unfortunately to a greater extent much of our motivation is extrinsically driven. We spend most of our lives trying to avoid the consequences of poverty, failure, unhappiness, and loneliness.

This is a compelling primal drive, yet may not be sustainable once objectives are met. For example we often notice people who enter into retirement, experience, depression and a sense of obsolescence. That is because most of their motivation was based upon extrinsic, push energy. Whereas if you are pulled, attracted, and enticed towards something your motivation will be more sustainable regardless of what the external circumstances are.

The challenge is to recapture or recognize those things you are pulled towards, that create a sense of desire, intrigue and internal satisfaction.

This may take some  soul searching  and discipline, but once you become aware and respect the empowered energy that comes from being pulled towards a task , an idea or dream, your motivation will ramp up exponentially.

If you have a colleague or friend that you believe would benefit from Motivational Mondays just submit their email address and they will automatically receive this free information, how awesome is that.

Thanks again for the opportunity to serve you.

To your empowerment, productivity, and motivation.

Mark
