Welcome to Motivational Mondays, your weekly PEP (Proactive , Empowered, Performance ) talk with Mark Kent.

How has your week been? Have you thought about the power of expressed words and how they may play an integral role in motivation, intentions, and outcomes?

Perhaps you have contemplated upon other words that you might use to express desired outcomes and whether they have strong or weak implications.

Yes, the words you use impacts upon desired goals and people's perceptions of your intentions.

Shakers and movers, leaders and doers tend to express words that are resolute, specific, focused and directly related to a desired outcome.

Remember Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" address? Very little room for interpretation here; he spelled out very specifically what his dream was and what he wanted to accomplish from his dream. That was the power of his message and it was compelling through his resolve to actualize his purpose, plans and dreams.

Conversely those who are ambivalent, externally manipulated, unsure and lacking confidence and direction tend to express themselves in open ended, non resolute, passive terms.

Here are some examples of such terms that tend to minimize motivation and promote procrastination.

How about this one. "When I get around to it" Just the fact that you are going around something intimates avoidance, wasted time and energy.

The most efficient approach between two points (cause and effect) is a straight line. The term "around to it" is an impediment for completing a desired goal and certainly less than convincing to an expressed intention.

Other verbal expressions such as "perhaps', "maybe", "when I can", "we'll see", also denote weakness, lack of direction and commitment towards a desired goal.

These types of expressions are vulnerable to emotions and prevailing external circumstances that all too easily sabotage any intentions you might have towards a desired goal.

However, the conscious choice of  powerful words are more resilient of external influences and can force the external influences to react to your desired outcomes.

The more resolute, direct, committed and driven your verbal expressions are the greater the chances of sustaining motivation and completing tasks.

For example, using such expressions as "I will.... , I plan to.... , I will complete... , I am determined to.... and of course "until' give off empowered energy and translates into a higher level of self efficacy, confidence and determination towards desired outcomes.

Next week, I will discuss further the power of verbal expressions and how placing time contingencies upon desired outcomes can ramp up your motivation even more.
