Welcome to Motivational Mondays, your PEP (Proactive, Empowered, Performance, talk with Mark Kent.

Well here it is, another week has quickly passed. Even so there are a lot of opportunities to utilize new ideas and techniques to improve your motivation and productivity.

Have you practiced the visualization technique to enhance the possibilities of completing a task that you would otherwise have avoided?

Did you notice how much easier it was to initiate a project when you repeatedly visualized yourself completing it?

Although we naturally visualize, it's the ability to consciously focus on scenarios, actions and intentions that ramp up our abilities towards completing a task.

Just as visualization is a powerful tool in promoting productivity, language is the medium that allows us to express the visualized intent.

Without language we cannot formulate thought processes, therefore how we talk to ourselves is intrinsically linked to how we think and visualize our actions within the world around us.

From this perspective you can realize the power of combining visuals and verbalizing your goals, which can promote proactive behaviours in overcoming procrastination.

Verbalizing empowered intentions is called "affirmations".

Affirmations are the active process of verbalizing what your intentions are in a positive dynamic context.

Repeating conscious decisions, imprints upon the brain and over time distills into the habitual part of the brain that will eventually change patterns of avoidance into more proactive habits.

It's important to express your affirmations as a personalized dynamic process. For example say:

  • I am preparing for this task.
  • I am following through on this initiative.
  • I am becoming more confident in achieving closure in my life.
  • I am completing one task at a time.
  • I am becoming more proactive in my behaviours.
  • I am learning to be more efficient.
  • Day by day I am gaining more control over my environment.
  • I am cleaning up unfinished business.

The power comes from seeing yourself in the process now, not just at some point in the future.

The more you verbalize and visualize in real time, the greater the chance you will internalize and act upon the affirmations in the here and now.

Of course you can create your own affirmations specific to any tasks or projects, but it is important to repeat them in the process of real time.

Practicing the combination of explicit visualization along with verbalization will be a powerful tool in enhancing your confidence and motivation to complete tasks and gain more control over your environment.

Next week I will expand upon the power of language and discuss what I consider the weakest and strongest words of the English language, and how you can utilize awareness of speech and specific words to improve motivation and productivity.

If you have a friend or colleague who you believe would enjoy and benefit from Motivational Mondays, then just submit their email and they will automatically receive this information free. How awesome is that.
