  In this issue:
  • REFLECTION and how it relates to motivation.

Welcome to Motivational Mondays, your weekly (PEP) proactive, empowered performance talk with Mark Kent.

How was your week? Have you become S.M.A.R.T. specific to motivation and productivity?

Last week I also mentioned a thought-provoking concept associated with motivation and productivity that you might not have thought of.

This is what I call the 4 R's of motivation.1) REFLECTION, 2) REJUVINATION 3) RESILIENCE, 4) REWARD.

This week I would like to share with you some thoughts on REFLECTION and how it relates to motivation.

REFLECTION may not sound like a dynamic action term that would be normally associated with motivation and productivity. However REFLECTION, can play a powerful role in creating change as it often promotes alternative choices and actions that might heretofore never been contemplated.

Due to the hurried pace and demands to multi-task of modern society, our behaviours become habitual within the expectations that are placed upon us.

It is estimated that 80 percent of our normal day-to-day behaviour is habitual and not within our conscious awareness. This is partly because our brain cannot attend to everything that that is going on, therefore the brain switches to auto pilot and only attends to new and threatening situations (this is why emotional memory is most lasting).

The ability to slow down the processing of information and reflect upon what it is you really want, asking what is in your best interest, to consciously ask and challenge yourself, what can I do differently or more efficiently to improve my life?

How can I become more productive, and gain control over my environment?...are relevant questions that can emerge from REFLECTION.

This pause is necessary to solve problems of habituation, gain closure and articulate new strategies.

REFLECTION, may intimate passive energy but it often provides the impetus for new and innovative approaches that will initiate creativity, new incentives, and empowered outcomes that will in turn inspire and enhance productivity and motivation.

Try to make a conscious effort to step back and reflect upon your life and ask questions like, am I as productive as I can be or would like to be?

Have I become habitual and unaware in my every day endevours?

Can I stimulate my mind and promote my dreams through active change and challenge?

It is when you reflect upon these types of questions that you will become aware and thus motivated to make change and improve your life whether it is just day-to-day routine activities or major changes in your life.

Next week I will discuss the second R of motivation, REJUVINATE.

If you have a friend or colleague that you believe would enjoy and benefit from Motivational Mondays then just submit their email address and they will automatically receive this free information, how awesome is that.
