  • Accountability as a Motivational Factor

Welcome to Motivational Mondays, your weekly PEP (Proactive,
Empowered, Performance) talk with Mark Kent.

How was your week? What challenges and tasks have you completed that have promoted confidence and improved self esteem?

Have you now become more familiar with the motivational techniques presented last week, which will improve your consistency and productivity?

This week I will expand more on some of those techniques to help you become even more empowered, as you understand why they can improve your productivity.

Would you agree with this statement? I THINK THEREFORE I FEEL. Most people would, in fact all emotions are formed from thoughts whether conscious or unconscious.

How about this statement? I SEE THEREFORE I REASON. This may be a bit trickier nevertheless there is a relationship between seeing and the rational brains ability to reason.

The visual cortex of the brain dominates the largest portion specific to our senses, therefore has a huge impact upon the brains ability to remember.

As well if you see something over and over again it tends to become imprinted therefore enabling your ability to respond consistently to that imprint. Really that's what advertising is all about.

Specific to procrastination we have learned to avoid almost anything to the point it becomes unconscious. This is a process called habituation. I will discuss that concept at a later date.

Constant reminders help us stay on tract and also maintain some sense of accountability that would have otherwise been overlooked.

It is accountability that can drive us to action, even if we do not feel like completing the task.

Accountability is essentially "principles over passion" We will tend to complete tasks when we are prompted by constant awareness as well as when accountability involved.

I can remember as a paperboy how much I loathed getting up early on a dark morning and trudging off in the bitter cold.

At that time it had nothing to do with external incentives (money) but because I felt responsible and accountable to my customers.

If you find yourself procrastinating and avoiding daily tasks, or people because you haven't returned an item or kept a commitment, chances are your sense of self esteem is compromised as well as your relationships.

It is necessary to put accountability into the equation, which will enhance your ability to become more consistent in honouring your responsibilities.

The truth is we all have a natural desire to be liked, accepted and respected. The more you factor accountability and consistency into your responsibilities towards yourself and others, your quality of life, and sense of well-being is dramatically improved.

If you strive toward writing tasks down and initiating accountability you will improve your ability to complete tasks and stay motivated toward your responsibilities.

Next week I will discuss in more depth how tilting the scale before the weigh in can have a huge impact upon your ability to stay task focused.
