Welcome to Motivational Mondays, your weekly
proactive, empowered, performance (PEP) talk from Mark Kent.

Well here it is, another Monday. Are you excited? Well if you are, it
is very unusual. Today's modern workaholic society has placed a
stigma upon going to work, especially Mondays by using such
connotations as Monday Morning Blues, Terrible Tuesdays, Hump
Wednesdays, only to be finally redeemed by TGIF. The truth is, we
often bemoan going to work because we perceive it from a negative
perspective. However, even if there are stressful parts of our job,
we can still gain a lot of satisfaction and fulfillment just by
changing our perspective. To a great extent, that's what motivation
is all about - changing our perspective.

For example, think about how a positive perspective motivates you to
prepare for and enjoy a vacation even though there are many stressful
tasks to accomplish this goal. Think of how easy it is to get up for
a golf game, early morning sailing even though it may require much
more effort and sacrifice than the demands of your job. We tend to
overlook the many hassles and stressors just because we perceive the
process and outcomes to be something we will enjoy. What if you could
perceive Mondays as the first leg of the journey? We tend to favor
getting to concerts, store sales and games first. The first tee off
or to get that special deal always seems to have an advantage. What
if you could see Mondays as an opportunity to get there first, to
step-up to the first period of the work game. Then it is easy to
overlook the stressors and the perceived negativity of starting your
work week.

Here are 3 concepts to consider: 1. Overlook cultural stigmas and see
Mondays as the beginning of your work journey. 2. Think getting there
first is a strategic advantage. (Beats showing-up on Tuesday) 3. See
Mondays as an opportunity to get into the game early, to hone your
skills and utilize your talents so to make strategic adjustments for
the next day.
