Welcome to Motivational Mondays, your weekly PEP (proactive, Empowered, Performance) talk with Mark Kent.

Was your week more productive as you realized your procrastination tendencies and what stage of the procrastination code may apply to you?

Did you identify specific thoughts and behaviours that may promote procrastination and loss of motivation?

How about the cycle of procrastination, were you able to identify patterns and habits within yourself that formed avoidance behaviours and thwarted your intentions to complete tasks?

Last week's emphasis was placed upon the Procrastination code, now this week I will discuss the Self Sabotage Code which is closely associated to the procrastinators code but more a symptom of procrastination than the cause.

Nevertheless, you may see patterns within yourself that can help you change self-defeating behaviours and improve your motivation and productivity.

Here is a list of self-defeating thoughts that promotes low motivation and self-sabotage.

1) I resist change and unforeseen events.

2) Everything I do must meet the highest standards and to do this I must take everything serious.

3) I must take control and responsibility for everything that happens around me.

4) I work best under pressure.

5) Other people's opinions of me matter and what they want takes precedence over my own concerns.

6) I must take total responsibility for other people's reactions to me.

7) I am controlled by my past, which I cannot change; therefore I can expect it to be repeated over and over again.

8) Any changes I try to make should happen immediately and any set backs means I am a failure or somehow flawed.

Just by reviewing these thoughts you can see how they can cause negative energy and ultimately demoralize our best intentions.

It' s necessary to realize thoughts are habitual just as behaviours are, and bringing them into awareness is an important step in identifying specific patterns of self-sabotage.

Up until now, you may not have been aware of these specific thoughts as they relate to motivation and productivity, but now you can see how disempowering they can be and any efforts to challenge and reconstruct such negative thoughts will go a long way towards changing self defeating patterns and improving your ability to be more productive and empowered.

Next week I will discuss how to crack the code of procrastination and self sabotage so to improve your capacity to become more productive and sustain motivation over the long haul.
